Originally from Oxford, now based in York, Robyn splits her time between her job at Naburn C of E Primary School and looking after her 2 young girls. Robyn’s husband is a Nursing Officer, in the Army Medical Services.
Robyn grew up in rural Oxfordshire on a mixed beef and arable farm and this was where her love of horses was first sparked, as the farm was also home to a racing yard. As a young girl, seeing the horses heading to the gallops daily, ignited her lifelong love of horses. Robyn studied for her degree in Agriculture with Animal Science at Aberystwyth University where she had the opportunity to spend a year in New Zealand, and her love of travel and adventure was ignited.
“Whilst living and working in New Zealand I found the thrill of travel and the excitement of finding a surprise around every corner. This challenge has already rekindled my love of adventure and exploring the unknown, and I can only dream of what it will be like once we are in the Andes.”
At the end of Robyn’s Studies at university Robyn met her future husband Matt then based in Stafford. A lucky posting to the Army Foundation College in Harrogate a year later, moving him closer to where Robyn was living on her family farm in Northumberland enabled their relationship to flourish. Matt’s next posting was to Blandford Forum, and as they were not married Matt and Robyn plucked up the courage to buy a house together outside the Somerset town of Yeovil. After four years, a puppy, an engagement, marriage, 9-month tour of Afghanistan and a baby, Robyn and Matt moved to York to enable Matt to study to be a nurse after transferring Corps. Soon after moving they welcomed their second daughter, and then two cats.
Robyn completed the Forces Wives Challenge, Ride to Freedom in June 2023, rekindling her love of; adventure, travel, and most of all horse riding, after feeling like she had lost herself after the birth of her two daughters.
“The Ride to Freedom Challenge was a fantastic opportunity for me to push myself out of my comfort zone and back into doing something I truly love. It was amazing to do this alongside like-minded women, all on our own personal journey.”
When Steph contacted Robyn in early Autumn of 2023, asking if she would be up for another challenge, there was only ever going to be one answer, YES!! Robyn is thrilled to be part of Equine Para-Adventures, Ride to Independence, and is excited to push the boundaries, with another inspiring group of women.
